"Over There"
By John Edwin Roberts
September 17, 2021
Johnnie drop your gun, drop your gun, drop your gun.
We're on the run, on the run, on the run.
Hear them calling you and me,
Pay no attention to their plea.
Hurry right away, no delay, we leave today,
Don't cry in shame, you're not to blame.
Cowardly politicians called retreat,
They're to blame for our defeat.
REFRAIN
Over there, over there,
Spread the word, spread the word over there,
The Taliban is coming, the Yanks are running,
The drums are silent e'vrywhere.
So beware, say a pray'r,
We leave you to death and despair.
We're in a rout, we're bugging out,
And we'll never be back to help you over there.
VERSE 2
Johnnie drop your gun, drop your gun, drop your gun.
We're on the run, on the run, on the run.
Drop the flag, we're on the fly,
Like the women and children die.
Leave the tanks and guns behind,
for the Taliban to find.,
Our lives and treasure down the drain,
Twenty years of war in vain.
REPEAT REFRAIN
Over there, over there,
Spread the word, spread the word over there,
The Taliban is coming, the Yanks are running,
The drums are silent e'vrywhere.
So beware, say a pray'r,
We leave you to death and despair.
We're in a rout, we're bugging out,
And we'll never be back to help you over there.
